Sodick VN Series

The VN series wire EDMs boast a latest-generation numerical control system, “LN3W”, which allows them to achieve exceptional performance and high speeds while maintaining a high level of precision and efficiency in the machining process.

They are equipped with linear motors that allow high-speed axis movement with fast numerical control response and no wear, normally typical of machines using ball screws. The VN series uses ceramic for the most critical parts whose most important benefits are a low coefficient of thermal expansion, light weight, high rigidity, wear resistance and excellent electrical insulation properties. It is therefore the ideal material for a leading high-quality EDM machine.

The VN series also uses an energy-saving hydraulic system. Around 70% of the electrical energy used in wire EDM is supplied to the fluid handling system. To solve this problem, a fluid control circuit is now included as standard, which reduces the energy required to drive the pumps. This is achieved by using an inverter to control the flow of water to the heads during machining. The result is a reduction in energy consumption of around 20% during the machine’s standby state, compared to conventional models.
