Prusa Research
Founded in Prague in 2012 by Josef Průša, Prusa Research is a world leader in 3D printing. Growing out of the open-source RepRap project, the company has revolutionised the sector by making additive manufacturing accessible, reliable and intuitive for makers and professionals alike.
The company’s philosophy combines its open-source ethos and ongoing support for the community with a rigorous focus on quality: hardware, software and materials are all developed in-house.
With a workforce of over 1,000 employees, Prusa Research manufactures and ships more than 10,000 printers every month worldwide from its headquarters in Prague, Czech Republic, and from Delaware in the United States, to businesses and professionals in more than 160 countries, confirming its position as one of the fastest-growing tech companies globally.

It’s not just technology; it’s the freedom to create in a pure, continuous way that’s accessible to everyone.

Features and benefits
- Thanks to an open-source and modular architecture, the software code, hardware designs and firmware are largely open and shared. The machines are designed to be upgradeable over time using official kits, thereby avoiding planned obsolescence
- Autocalibration and ease of use thanks to advanced sensor technology, since the introduction of the Nextruder system. The load sensors perform ultra-precise automatic bed levelling, eliminating the need for manual calibration and ensuring that the first layer always adheres properly without any user intervention.
- An integrated, in-house ecosystem designed not only to manufacture hardware, but also to manage the entire value chain: the PrusaSlicer slicer, the PrusaConnect remote management platform and the Prusament range of high-precision filaments
- Flexible, removable printing plates made from magnetic spring steel with a special coating to produce smooth, satin-finish or textured surfaces. This solution allows the printed parts to be removed quickly without risking damage to them
- Advanced multi-material and multi-colour management through dedicated solutions – from the MMU module to systems with automatic extruder switching – Prusa products, combined with the introduction of the INDX system, allow you to use up to 8 different materials or colours in the same print process with minimal waste
- Reliability proven ‘in the field’ thanks to the company’s structure, in which every innovation is tested extensively at the Prusa Print Farm in Prague – an in-house print farm with hundreds of machines operating 24 hours a day to produce the printer components themselves – and at associated facilities such as PrusaLab and PrusaCenter, ensuring rigorous quality control and proven durability for both business and industrial use
